Curating Your Sacred Space

A sacred space is a personal haven and spiritual sanctuary. It’s a point of connection and cultivation, for dreams, desires, and soul.

There is no right or wrong with how we curate our sacred space; many folks call their sacred space their “altar” or it could be a favorite reading nook with a space for sacred items. Whatever titled, theses sacred places are often adorned with items that reflect our current life journey, the season, ancestors, candles, incense, trinquets, mantras, symbols that are important to us, and tools that invoke discernment, connection, and reflection within ourselves.

A sacred space is any realm that fosters a soulful communion with ourselves, higher consciousness, and the divine (God). It’s a nook of our home that reminds us to slow down, breathe, and connect with the sacredness within and around us. It’s a space for reflection and honoring.

I have soo many sacred spaces in different homes, and no matter how big or small… I find these spaces always help me feel grounded, connected, and more at home in myself and my daily life.

Some Examples of Sacred Spaces:

  1. A meditation nook adorned with candles, pillows, or incense.

  2. A portion of a desk or shelf thoughtfully arranged & dedicated to inner work or self-care rituals.

  3. A cherished chair with a cozy blanket—for moments of quiet contemplation or daily reading.

  4. A shrine, adorned with ancestors photos and sacred objects echoing one's spirituality.

  5. A corner where yoga unfolds, creating a sanctuary of movement and breath.

  6. A bedside or coffee table, adorned with treasures that embody self-care and current intentions.

I have a sacred space in my home, and a travel altar that goes with me wherever I go. Both of these are always changing depending on the season and where I’m at personally. Sometimes my travel altar only consists of a candle and a special dish for my rings (Taking my rings off is a nightly ritual for me… a moment of slowing down to reflect on my day & notice what I’m grateful for.) Other times, I have cloth, tarot, incense and more. It just depends on what’s working for me at the time of travel.

If you don’t have a sacred space, maybe this is your invitation to create one!

Find a space that feels welcoming in your home, and begin to adorn it with things you loves. Maybe a poem that embodies where you’re at right now in life - a mantra. A picture of beloved elder who’s passed & you wish to connect with and honor. Treasures from the Earth that represent the season and the four elements. A cherished belonging from childhood. Candles, incense, statue, deity, hand made gift, tarot… there is no right or wrong! This is your space - no one else’s.

However you piece together your sacred space, altar, special nook… let you heart and intuition be your guide. Let it be a space that brings you body + being deep communion, contemplation, and ease. Let it be a place where mystical, spiritual, and sacred converge.
