Ostara - Welcoming Renewal & Balance

What is Ostara?

Also known as the vernal, or spring, equinox - Ostara is a Pagan solar holiday honoring the spring’s warmth, light from the sun, and the awakening of the earth. One theory is the name of Ostara came from the Anglo-Saxon goddess Eostre.

The Spring Equinox is a reminder to us all to seek balance in our lives. The world around us is often busy & stressful to our body, mind and spirit. This is a profound time for to find rituals, hobbies, and tasks that invite renewal and balance after these long dark winter months.

It’s a great time to get outside and enjoy the warmer spring weather, start a new project, welcome some spring cleaning, start a movement ritual to clearcut body, and even plant seeds of intention for the coming months.

It’s also the start of the Astro calendar, with Aries (fire) season upon us. Aries mantra is, “I Am” and is a great mantra to welcome as we plant seeds of intention that help us release our internal cobwebs and renew habits, ideas, or rituals that bring vibrancy and life back into our daily lives.

RITUALS TO MARK THE HOLIDAY:

  • get outside - hear the birds sing

  • plant seeds

  • take a walk in nature

  • relish the sun on your face

  • freshen your altar space with herbs, stones, and items that represent the season

  • spring clean

  • Take a ritual bath with cleansing intention

  • Have a celebratory dinner with dear friends

  • journal/meditate with intention

Journal Prompts for Connection & Reflection:

  • What thoughts, patterns, relationships am I ready to release to welcome renewal & balance into my body & mind?

  • What projects are you ready to kickstart & how can you take steps toward this?

  • What daily activities, or rituals, can I welcome/adopt to bring more love, life, and a sense of inner peace/alignment into my life?
