My Story

I create spaces where people can hear themselves.

I’m Brooke — sound practitioner, Reiki practitioner, cellist + keeper of Little Rituals on Ocracoke Island. I was the kid who felt everything and got told it was too much… it took me a long while to understand the sensitivity was never the problem. It was the instrument. Most of what I offer now is the room I needed then.

I grew up in a home full of love and full of certainty.

Brooke as a young girl

Evangelical. Conservative. Clear about what a person was supposed to believe and how she was supposed to move through the world.

And I felt everything. I knew what was in a room before anybody said it out loud. I picked up what other people were carrying and couldn’t always tell it from my own. I have words for that now — clairsentient, claircognizant, clairvoyant. Back then it simply made me the sensitive one.

So I ate my feelings. That is exactly what it was: a coping mechanism, and a reasonable one for a kid taking in more than she had anywhere to put. I was a chubby kid from late elementary through middle school. I want to name that gently, because so many of us still carry shame for the ways we survived. Mine got me through. It also taught me to treat my body as something to manage rather than somewhere to live.

I was also a musician from the beginning. Piano since I was four, then the cello, which I still think of as the heart instrument. Hold onto that.

Hide the knowing.Hide the feeling.Hide the body.

What no one told me then is that the sensitivity was never the problem. It was the instrument. It got called too much because the rooms I was standing in had no use for it… and I’ve come to believe most of us are carrying far more of this than we were ever given permission to hold.

I spent the first half of my life learning to leave my body.

Brooke, hand on heart

At nineteen I moved to New York to be an actor, because I believed — I still believe — that a story told well can carry a person somewhere they couldn’t get to alone.

What I found was an industry that measured me, body shame that went bone-deep, and a few years I hold tenderly now — I gave my body to men who did not value it, because no one had taught me it was worth anything. I put the music down too.

On paper I was fine. Working, paying rent, making my way in a huge city. In my body I was somewhere far away.

Then I walked into a yoga class. For a workout.

What I got was a man holding sacred space for a room of bodies moving with intention. After New York, that mattered more than I know how to say. Something in me could finally stop bracing.

I wept in Savasana. It was the most honest thing my body had done in years. Lying on that floor I understood I had not breathed, had not felt safe, had not actually been inside myself in a very long time.

I went back every week for months. Yoga was never only my physical body — it was a way into the layers underneath, and the body was always the door.

Reconnection turned into reclamation — of my body first, then my spirit and my own consciousness. I went back for the parts of me that had been programmed and shamed out before I was old enough to defend them. I had been taught the sacred belonged to somebody else and my own knowing was suspect. It has taken years to repair my relationship with Christianity rather than throw it out, and these days I find myself drawn to Mary Magdalene — which is its own kind of homecoming.

In 2012 I moved to Asheville with Nick, now my husband — the first man who truly revered my body and made me feel seen inside it. The mountains, the donation-based studios, the teachers who gave the work away: the door opened wider there. And Asheville gave me music back. I picked up the cello after years of silence.

Then a didgeridoo meditation, and a Kundalini teacher who ended every class with gongs.

I had felt the power of music my whole life. This was something else.

And I could only feel it because yoga had finally put me back inside my body.

So I went after it. I studied sound for its therapeutic properties, not just its beauty. I carried my cello into yoga classes. I bought my first singing bowl. In 2019 I became a yoga teacher, and that same year I led my first sound meditation in my own home in the mountains.

That is when I understood what sound can do. It holds a whole room without asking anyone to do a single thing — only to be present and receive. People get to be exactly who they are, exactly where they are.

That is still the heart of it for me.

Then I left Asheville, and that was the hardest part. I had built a community there that actually saw me — people tuned into spirit and into nature, speaking a language I was only just learning to say out loud. Ocracoke is smaller. I arrived in the middle of my own awakening and found myself doing most of it alone. I grieved that for a long time.

Eventually I understood the obvious thing: if the room I needed didn’t exist here, I was going to have to build it.

So I built one. And it became my teacher.

Inside the Little Rituals shop

Little Rituals opened in 2022. I thought I was opening a shop. It became one of my greatest spiritual teachers.

It meant carrying a business, a community and a practice at once, and I did not know how to do that without disappearing. Everything I had learned about energy I now had to live inside a P&L and a front door that opens at ten. It asked more of me than anything had.

Exhaustion. Brain fog. A body asking, and then asking louder, until I listened. Nothing was wrong with me. Something in me simply needed my attention.

What came out of it: boundaries, for real. Energy treated as a resource instead of something renewable. Needs I stopped justifying. And an honest read on my own capacity — because I want to keep showing up for the people in this community, and I can only do that if there is something left of me.

I became my first client.

Brooke working hands-on with a client

When I came up for air, the people finding their way to me were doing the same work I was. Nurses. Teachers. Caretakers. Business owners. The one everybody else leans on. Many of them were told they were too much, or not enough, somewhere along the way. They know how to hold a room; they have forgotten what it feels like to be held in one.

Sometimes it’s a divorce. Sometimes a career turning over. Sometimes nothing is wrong at all and they just feel thin.

In 2023 I began yoga therapy training with Breathing Deeply, which I’m still in and may never finish. Somewhere in there I noticed that everything I had chased for twenty years was one thing wearing different clothes. Sound therapy is energy work. So is Reiki. So are the Akashic records. I’m deep in learning about plasma right now because I want the mechanics of what I have felt my whole life.

The kid who was told her knowing was too much grew up and built a practice out of it.

Mission + Values

Tune in. Find your rhythm. Live in resonance.

I create spaces for people to slow down, tune in + hear themselves more clearly. That’s the whole of it, underneath everything else. Sound, energy, movement, ritual, ceremony are doorways… the work is the listening.

Almost every person who finds me was told they were too much, or not enough, somewhere along the way. What I offer is a room where you can be held, heard, seen + witnessed. Not fixed — I don’t believe folks are broken. The tending stays yours. But we were never meant to move through the meaningful things without witness, and most of us were never given anywhere to be met.

I wasn’t, for a long time. I’ve been the space holder — the empath, the highly sensitive one, the intuitive with a wide-open heart — and I know what it costs to hold everyone + rarely be held yourself. So this is the room I keep.

Connection

With your body first… everything else follows from there.

Community

We were never meant to move through the meaningful things without witness.

Sovereignty

Your body, your pace, your yes + your no. Always yours.

Authenticity

No performing wellness here. Come as you are.

Resonance

Sound — and the quieter thing underneath it. What rings true in you.

Empowerment

I’m not the one holding your answers. I hold the room steady while you listen.

What I Believe

  • We are part of nature, not visitors to it. The same rhythms that move the tides move us.
  • We are cosmic beings having a very physical experience. Both are true at once.
  • The body is wise. It is the most honest instrument you have.
  • Energy is real, and it is everything.
  • Sound reaches what language cannot.
  • Ritual brings the sacred into ordinary days.
  • There is a great knowing available to all of us — and it is always available, including in the darkest stretch.
  • We find our way home to it rarely alone, and usually with some blend of community, spirit and the natural world.

My work draws from yogic, somatic, energetic + shamanic traditions. You’re welcome here whether or not any of this is yours… I’m not asking anyone to believe what I believe. I’d just rather you know me a little before we begin.

The body is the door.

Whether we are one-on-one or in a room full of people, the work moves in layers.

The physical body. We start here — creating safety in the nervous system, learning to listen instead of override.

The emotional body. So what has been held or suppressed can finally be felt, expressed and released.

The energetic body. Clearing, regulating, reconnecting you to your vitality and your intuition.

The soul. Your truth, your rhythm, your gifts — and an honest look at where you have been playing small.

Yoga, sound, Reiki, energy work, ritual, ceremony — different doors into the same room. You’re not broken. I’m not here to fix you… only to hold the room steady while you listen.
